Class Descriptions
Each yoga tradition is unique. A firm foundation will help you appreciate the grace of BKS Iyengar’s yoga. This is why we encourage Iyengar yoga newcomers to our Level 1 class. Contact us for more information.
Introduction to Pranayama
Our 10-week Introduction to Pranayama will take you through the initial stages of this subtle, reflective discipline. You’ll be encouraged to practice what you've learned between classes, to lay the foundation for a regular home practice. Thus, the class is not appropriate for drop-ins.
Participants should have two years of Iyengar yoga experience, and have a bolster, two wood bricks, yoga blankets, a belt and a mat.

Iyengar Yoga Basics
The perfect introduction to Pathway Yoga! Take four Foundation, Gentle or Level 1 classes for just $50. This package is for new students, and you can start any time. If you decide to continue, we’ll pro-rate your fee for the balance of the session.
All Levels
In this class, the teacher will make sure all students are safe and challenged at their level of practice.
Level 1
Begin to explore the integrity and vibrancy of Iyengar yoga. Develop mobility, stability and strength through expanding your knowledge of the foundational asanas, or yoga postures, with emphasis on the standing poses.
Level 2
Learn headstand and basic back bends, and continue to build on the foundation. If poses are not recommended for you for health reasons, you will learn how to adapt them safely. Confidence and concentration expand.
Level 3
Work toward holding headstand, shoulder stand and basic variations for 5 minutes. Develop a regular home practice, in preparation for classes that touch on all families of asanas: standing poses, forward extensions, back bends, twists, inversions and arm balances.
Level 4
Seasoned Iyengar yoga students, familiar with the full spectrum of practice, refine your knowledge of Iyengar yoga and advance your sadhana. You are expected to have established a dedicated home practice.
Invigorate!
An energetic class in which classical Iyengar yogasanas are linked in sequence or taught in quick succession. A great choice for students with a solid Iyengar foundation who really want to move!
Gentle
A slower-paced class where the teacher takes extra care in adapting postures to individual needs. This is an excellent choice if you’re cautious about yoga because of health concerns. You are welcome to contact us before registering if you have any questions.
Restorative
Soothe and settle mind and body through a series of supported postures nourished by the breath. This class is a haven if your energy is low, your stress level is high, or you just want to be quiet and go inward.
Ropes and Chairs
Intensify your experience and deepen your understanding of both new and familiar poses with the use of wall ropes and chairs! Suitable for all levels.
Recovery
For students who are recovering from injury or living with chronic health conditions.
Back Care
Students will learn how to practice Iyengar yoga safely and effectively for spinal health. Those with acute back problems should register in the Special Care class, with the permission of their doctor. Not offered this session.
Timed Practice
This is an intensive, guided 90-minute practice for Intermediate and Advancing students. The asanas are named and timed. No instruction is given, though the instructor makes individual corrections. Offered from time to time - watch for details!
Sutra Study
Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras are the earliest writings on yoga. Enquire into yoga philosophy by studying, chanting and reflecting on these succinct, profound aphorisms. Not offered this session.
Restorative and Pranayama
Pranayama is the 4th of Patanjali’s 8 limbs of yoga. Study the way of the breath, and its relationship to the vortices of energy in which we live. Participants should have had at least two years of Iyengar yoga classes, and be equipped with all the props required for a full restorative practice.
